While many firms cater to companies, the two founders of Devichy Lawyers had a completely different vision in mind. As long-time business associates, lawyers Veronica Vallelonga and Xavier Cormier-Lassonde built a firm that would reflect their deepest conviction: that the individual must be at the heart of our work.
Our values
Serving individuals

Today, these two associates lead Devichy Lawyers, a firm whose family law team now comprises more than 30 lawyers across Quebec. The firm also offers services in criminal law, youth protection and litigation. “Many of the big firms across Quebec focus predominantly on business law and commercial disputes,” explains Mr. Cormier-Lassonde. “For individuals seeking to defend their rights, there was room on the market for a firm like Devichy. We were therefore determined to offer a range of services geared to individuals, from every corner of the province.” With 13 offices across the province and remote consulting services, Devichy Lawyers is there to help their clients when legal worries come and shake up their lives.
Staying close to people
It’s often in a trying moment that lawyers from Devichy are there guiding their clients: separation or divorce, reporting a situation to the Director of Youth Protection (DYP), dismissal, criminal charge, etc. This human approach, which we prefer, really takes on its full meaning at our firm. “We are committed to staying in frequent contact with our clients and keeping them informed about the progress of their case,” adds Ms. Vallelonga. “We even conduct regular surveys to know their satisfaction level, which enables us to adjust our aim, as needed.”
“Our team is composed of senior and junior lawyers, some of whom are mothers of young children. Our model allows them to give the best of themselves when they’re on the job, and to enjoy their family to the fullest when they’re not at work.” Veronica Vallelonga.
For Xavier Cormier-Lassonde, this freedom is non-negotiable. “Even before the pandemic hit, everything was in place at Devichy Lawyers to offer team members the chance to work wherever they wished—whether at home, to be there when the kids got back from school, or abroad, provided their presence was not required in court. As the firm grows, this fundamental value anchors everything we do.”

Community involvment
As a firm focused on the individual, Devichy has chosen to get involved in regional associations whose mission is to advance and improve the community’s access to legal services. Devichy’s involvement happens through donations, information sharing and active participation in events organized by various stakeholders.
Our entire team proudly mobilized to become a partner or even member of associations like the AAADFQ, AADM, AICJQ, CBA, The Advocates’ Society, and even the Quebec Bar Foundation.
AICJQ ‒ Association of Italian-Canadian Jurists of Quebec
Dedicated to the Italian community, this association is dear to the heart of Veronica Vallelonga, our co-founder and head of our firm’s family law and youth protection division. Given her Italian heritage, our lawyer wanted to invest in the AICJQ on Devichy’s behalf. We know that her yearly participation may be able to aid a law student with Italian roots, by helping fund a portion of their law studies.
In short, Devichy hopes to support the AICJQ in making the legal profession more accessible to Italians.
